A recently bereaved family travel up to Scotland for the weekend. Setting up camp at a secluded caravan park deep within the forest, the five siblings intend to scatter their mother’s ashes before heading back home to England, to life without her. The place is perfect; rolling hills, meandering streams, endless woodland, bustling wildlife, a peaceful loch, every shade of green for as far as the eye can see, and, the icing on top of the already spectacular cake, the owners of the resort are nicer than nice, sweeter than sweet, whiter than white. But not all is what it seems… Underneath the plastic veneer of beauty and splendour lies a murky underbelly of horrors, both twisted and surreal, all taking place within the grounds of the idyllic forest resort; a resort in the middle of nowhere; a place where no one can hear you scream. You only get what you pay for, and there’s a reason why this particular resort is so inexpensive during the autumn and winter months. Scratch beneath the surface and you will find the terrifying truth. The owners are not who they seem, the staff are hiding a dark, dark secret they dare not share, and the other guests, who are few and far between, keep their distance and linger in the background, rarely ever engaging with our family, often looking down their noses at them. But why? What makes ‘them’ so different? Dark figures lurk in the shadows, things go bump in the night and move on their own, loved ones go missing, not everyone can be trusted or relied upon, and nothing is ever as it seems (apart from when it is). But don’t be mistaken… FOREST OF HORRORS: AN OCCULT BRITISH HORROR is an original, interesting, and surprising take on the modern horror genre; full of unexpected twists and turns, jumps and scares, blood and gore, all mixed together with an intriguing plot, a story about family and about loss and about moving on, full of likable characters you will care about and wish well, hoping and praying that they will make it through the forest of horrors unscathed. But will they? VERY IMPORTANT: 18+ only; strong language, gore & dark themes throughout. No zombies.

I didn't know what I wanted to read. So i handed my four year old my kindle with unlimited open, and let him pick. I never know how he settles on books when I play this game, he can't read. He offers no explanation when I asked, just "read that mom". So I read that lol. I expected a different book than what I got. Based on the title and description, I thought I was getting slasher type horror. I hesitate to put this into the horror category. But where else would I put it? But where else would I put it? I dunno, so horror it it, due to the last 30% of the book. The first 70% was getting to know the family and their motivations, delving into their relationships and pasts. They just bond together and enjoy the creepy campground as they mourn their mother. I really liked this book. It was a super slow buildup to the grand finale.
